The Seattle Totems make their first player move of the season, sending forward Jacob Winfrey to Columbus.

In return for Winfrey, Seattle will receive future considerations from the Mavericks. According to Totems Head Coach, Mike Butters, the move was made to both mutually help the Totems and Winfrey. "Moving players at this level is always really tough. Jacob is a great kid and a good player but in order to give him an opportunity to get more game time and give our guys more game starts, the move was necessary." Butters added, "Opie (Winfrey) is a great character kid. He is a positive person and we all wish him well in Columbus."

While no player from Columbus is expected immediately, Seattle will receive "future considerations," something that may come into play later, said Totems GM, Michael Murphy. "Both us and Columbus will continue to  assess our rosters and if the right move comes together down the road, we will work towards that."

Murphy also said that while he is happy with his roster that changes are always on the horizon. "We (Totems) aren't like most USPHL clubs in that we don't carry a big roster. A lot of  teams carry 31 players, which is far too many, in my opinion. When I brought in Coach Butters he was also wanting a small roster in order to give our players more opportunities. It is something we have always done in Seattle and in moving Winfrey, it gives us one less player to juggle in and out of the lineup. Jacob is a great kid and Columbus said that he would get a great opportunity there. Because of this, I felt it was best for both us and Jacob to make the move."

The Totems take on division rival, Vernal, this Saturday at Olympicview Arena. Game time is 7:30pm.
